Review of the Education SEPP 2017

The NSW Government has proposed a new Planning Reform Action Plan. This plan will create a better planning system for NSW. This plan will attempt to reduce assessment time frames when assessing development applications which will fast track developments and infrastructure in NSW.

In 2017 the State Environmental Planning Policy (Educational Establishments and Child care facilities) 2017 or Education SEPP for short, was introduced to save time and money when assessing educational facilities.

Three years have passed since the Education SEPP was introduced and as such the State Government has proposed some minor tweaks. The main amendments proposed are:

• Creating a new Housing Diversity SEPP for students.
• Making the approval process for educational facilities easier for developers and educational facilities
• Addressing concerns of child – care centres established in Low Density R2 Zones (R2)
